On February 28, we will share our plate with the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) for their Texas Crisis Response. The extreme winter storm in Texas coupled with inequitable policies and failed leadership have created deadly conditions for people living with disabilities, Indigenous Peoples, undocumented immigrants, and others who are disproportionately left out of immediate aid. UUSC has moved quickly in response to the crisis by sending emergency grants to support their existing partners in the region. The Carrizo Comecrudo Tribe of Texas is providing water, food, and propane to members of the community who have been hard-hit by the storm and are in remote locations unlikely to receive federal and state emergency resources.
The Living Hope Wheelchair Association in Houston is a disability and immigration advocacy organization that is helping individuals with disabilities and their families purchase food and water, replace damaged wheelchair and car batteries, and repair homes affected by bursting pipes and flooding.
