Jen Thomas
Member Engagement Coordinator
(she/her)
As a true native Oregonian at heart, Jen has had the privilege of living in various corners of the United States and the world. Still, her journey always led her back to the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Now, she’s thrilled to call Oregon her full-time home, and she’s honored to join the First Unitarian community as the Member Engagement Coordinator.
Jen’s passion for Unitarian Universalism has taken her on an incredible journey, allowing her to experience the diversity and warmth of many UU congregations across the country. These experiences have enriched her understanding of our faith and deepened her commitment to fostering a sense of belonging within our spiritual community.
In her professional past, Jen had the privilege of serving the Boise UU Congregation for eight years as their Religious Education Director for Children and Youth. It was a transformative experience, working alongside dedicated families and individuals who share our values of inclusivity, justice, and compassion. Additionally, Jen served on the Pacific Northwest District (now the Western region), the religious education team, and the district search committee for the district executive.
In her personal life, she cherishes the time spent with her loving spouse, Steve, and she takes immense pride in being a mother to a married daughter and daughter-in-law. She’s grateful for the bonds they share. When she’s not engaged in the world of Unitarian Universalism, you’ll find Jen traveling and exploring the great outdoors, cooking up a storm, doing home repair and crafting. They also share their home with two feline companions, Penny and Charles, who add endless joy to their lives.
Jen is excited to bring her experience and commitment to fostering connections to her role as Member Engagement Coordinator at First Unitarian Portland.
