Eighty degree afternoons used to feel like a heat wave in Portland. We would retreat to inside spaces, hopefully air conditioned, only emerging when temperatures dropped by another ten degrees. Now it seems like just another summer day, and life goes on. Despite the heat, this summer Portland never slowed down: advocacy for houseless people, justice for immigrants, climate activism, and, in preparation for fall elections, UU the Vote is ramping up. What is it about this activism that draws in so many UUs? And how does our faith community call us to show up, and support us when we do?
