School Supply Collection for Western Farm Workers

Join us in supporting Western Farm Workers and their families by participating in our School Supply Collection event on Sunday, August 20, and Sunday, August 27. Look for the IJAG Table in Fuller Hall during coffee hour after service to drop off your donations.

Collection Dates: Sunday, August 20, and Sunday, August 27

Packing and Distribution Day: Saturday, September 2, 2023 (Location to be announced)

This is a fantastic intergenerational event suitable for young people over 10 years old. Families with mature middle schoolers and above are encouraged to get involved. Volunteers are needed to help pack and distribute supplies on Distribution Day.

Volunteers Wanted: If you’re interested in volunteering on September 2 or want to sign up for this heartwarming initiative, please contact Laurie at lesterlaura@gmail.com.

Let’s come together to make a difference in the lives of farmworker families. Your support will go a long way in ensuring these children have the tools they need for a successful school year. Plus, volunteers can look forward to a delightful Mexican food lunch prepared by WFWA members on Distribution Day.

Options for delivering supplies:

  1. Church on August 20 and 27
  2. If you plan to help pack on September 2, you can deliver your own donations to the church in Hillsboro/Aloha, where packing will happen (TBA)
  3. You can order items and have them shipped directly to
    1. Western Farm Workers Association 725 SE 7th Avenue, Hillsboro, OR 97123
  4. You can deliver them to Laurie’s house until Sunday, August 27

Items requested are the following:

  • Backpacks: We have been asked to provide better quality, sustainable alternatives. Though buying five fun-character backpacks can feel like more of a donation, these actually wear out within a very short time and have to be replaced during the school year.  We suggest fewer items of better quality.
