Eileen “ikie” Nolan Kressel is a printmaker and painter, a retired Clinical Social Worker and Registered Art Therapist who for over twenty years was a member of Inkling Studio in Portland, Oregon. Ikie grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y., received a B.A. from Hunter College and attended the School of Visual Arts and The Brooklyn Museum Art School. After moving to Oregon in 1971, Ikie received a Masters in Social Work and had a private practice for many years. Ikie’s solo show at The First Unitarian Church opens in May, 2019. The show features her “repurposed” black and white linoleum cut prints. The “repurposed” prints were created by taking old color prints, along with decorative papers and collaging them on to the black and white prints. Each is an original, unique print. Each print is a narrative, inspired by the artist’s direct experience or an experience that has been observed. Along with the large color prints, are a series of smaller black and white prints inspired by life on the Willamette River where she and her husband have a floating home.
