Hi to you all!
The new year always comes with much promise and possibility. To that end, the Board has reviewed our covenant with each other. We are considering a new version to be reviewed and voted on at our next meeting. We will be returning to our UU roots and reminding ourselves of our agreements as we read our new covenant at the beginning of our meetings. Nine members of the Board and at least two additional congregants attended the Canadian Unitarian Council’s training, Decolonizing Democracy, on February 4. It was a day well spent and gave us much to think about and consider. A group that intends to keep moving forward with the ideas that arose from the training, and we will keep you posted on their work. Much has been happening on Sundays after church in this new year. Faith and Reproductive Freedom Sunday included other faiths in the ceremony and ritual. The Buchan space featured the display “Focus on Abortion” for part of January. This past Sunday, the Social Justice community hosted a Social Justice Fair to share their work in our larger community. And the kindergarten and first grade RE class invited all to view the community they have created this year from boxes and miscellaneous “stuff.” There was also a lot of interest in the new work on the Art Wall in Fuller Hall. It feels great to see so many happenings after our service.
The Board Forum on February 26 will allow you to learn about the proposed changes to the UU purposes, principles, and sources in Article II of the UUA Bylaws. A preliminary vote on the changes will be held at this year’s General Assembly (GA), and the final vote will be held at GA 2024. Our church delegates will take the feedback from our congregation to GA. The Board Forum is an opportunity for you to discuss the proposed changes and to give your feedback to be shared by our delegates at GA. Here is a link for more information about the work that has been and is happening.
Please remember that you are always welcome to attend Board meetings in person or online. The next Board meeting is on March 2 at 7 PM. Or, stop by the Board table at coffee hour on Sundays.
