JOB OPENING: Acting/Interim* Director of Music Ministries

First Unitarian Portland seeks a Director of Music who is responsible for leading our music ministries through a time of transition and rebuilding, working in close collaboration with church ministers and music program participants to create music to serve the worship and musical life of the congregation as well as to build community.

Director oversees all music presented at the church, honoring a broad diversity of musical traditions and cultures. They direct and supervise choirs for all ages as well as bell choirs and other instrumental ensembles, working closely with clergy to create meaningful and spirit-filled worship. They work to encourage a nurturing music community that is fully integrated into the life of the church, working to offer a program that serves both the deeper spiritual needs of the congregation as well as the goal of musical excellence. They bring demonstrated expertise in choral conducting and knowledge of vocal technique. They will manage all music staff. They must be enthusiastic, people-oriented and able to lead in the spirit of ministry. Leads a program that is imbued with Unitarian Universalist values.

The position is available September 1, and until filled. We are seeking candidates who will fill the role for one or possibly two years. Start and end dates negotiable.
