In keeping with our eight principles and as social justice allies, our mission is to support and enhance the rights of refugees, migrants, and immigrants in our community. We provide information; promote understanding and engagement of our fellow UU congregants to these ends.
IJAG hosts regular monthly events and meetings. For information about upcoming activities, please email ijag@firstunitarianportland.org
The Immigrant Justice Action Group will work to:
- Take action to demonstrate and support immigrants as they express their needs.
- Educate fellow congregants on issues facing immigrants in our community.
- Support congregants in becoming allies to immigrants.
- Interface with other organizations and faith groups in Portland working on immigration issues and actively participate in the Interfaith Movement for Immigrant Justice (IMIrJ).
- Partner with action groups within the Social Justice Council recognizing the impact of white supremacy culture on all Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities and the power of collaboration.
We regularly participate in all-church informational and action-oriented programs that address issues and support immigrants and refugees in our community. Watch The Front Steps each week for details.

UPCOMING EVENT: A 2024 Election Info Session – Love at the Center of Immigration
October 15 from 6 – 7 p.m. Hosted on Zoom.
US immigration law is now almost 40 years old. Misinformation abounds. Over the past 15 years, three presidents have struggled to protect the border, provide asylum, and welcome immigrants. What has worked? What have been the greatest challenges? How might immigration policies and programs change under each of the two presidential candidates? What does this mean for Oregon? What is a vision of an immigration system that coheres to UU values? Panelists will present their on-the-ground knowledge of immigration issues in Oregon, and answer questions from the zoom participants.

Please email ijag@firstunitarianportland.org for more information.
