For the month of November, we share our plate with the Immigrant Mutual Aid Coalition (IMAC). In September 2020 when devastating wildfires and hazardous smoke affected much of Oregon, IMAC quickly pulled together community members along with immigrant rights and social justice groups. IMAC set up a distribution site for emergency food and supplies in Clackamas County, accessible to many members of Latinx and immigrant communities many of whom are farm workers and service workers. The coalition continues to prepare for and respond to the unequal impact on these frontline communities of worsening climate disasters that affect our region, including fires, ice storms, and numerous heat emergencies. This all-volunteer effort serves between 300 and 400 families in the Portland Metro area and supports mutual aid efforts in other areas of the state including Medford, Cottage Grove, and Hillsboro.
