January 22 marks 50 years since the Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion. Since the Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision in June of 2022, which overturned Roe, many states have severely limited abortion health care or outlawed it together, including Idaho, which implemented a near-total abortion ban.
For January, First Unitarian Portland shares our plate to support Idaho Interfaith Organizing for Reproductive Freedom. The funds we raise will support our interfaith siblings in a range of potential actions, including launching an Idaho ballot initiative for reproductive freedom, potential legal defense, direct aid for people seeking reproductive care, and building networks of support and organizing throughout Idaho.
This is one direct way that Oregonians, whose laws are the most protective of abortion nationally, can partner with our Idaho siblings as they strategize and build effective coalitions for reproductive freedom.
