Homecoming Sunday UU the Vote Party: Rooted in Relationship, we will make a difference!
Sunday, September 11 following worship service; program starts at 12:15pm
Join your First Unitarian Social Justice companions at the Homecoming Sunday UU the Vote Party on September 11 after the service!
Do you want to make a big difference in the upcoming midterms? Do you want to create connections with UUs in critical state elections in North Carolina who have the same level of commitment to democracy and to the importance of voting as you do? Then come to our UU the Vote party. This energizing event will be a boost to our concerted effort to help get out the vote in our chosen sibling state, North Carolina, from now right up to the midterm election.
This party will be for fun—and for the serious business of promoting voting. We’ll meet in person, as well as on Zoom (everything we are doing in this initiative can be accomplished remotely—it’s so cool!)
Yes–you can even join in this party on September 11 via Zoom—here’s the link.
UU the Vote. You’ll have the opportunity to join a tried-and-true UU the Vote movement—which has had a huge impact on elections nationwide and is guiding us in our goal to get out the vote to defend the values dear to us. For the 2022 midterm elections, First Unitarian is partnering with Forward Together, The Unitarian Universalist Justice Ministry of North Carolina to mobilize voters.
Our Agenda for September 11. At this kick-off, you’ll hear encouraging words from our new senior minister Allison, our new intern Eli, and key lay leaders of this initiative—but only for about 30 minutes. During and after the introduction, you’ll enjoy delicious munchies in Buchan Hall, you’ll converse with others who are joining the initiative, and you’ll hear from one of our partner North Carolina UU congregations via Zoom! They will be so thrilled to see your smiling faces and will describe in person the voting conditions that make our participation so vital!
Letter-Writing and Phone-Banking
First Unitarian has already been very active in letter-writing, and soon we will expand to include phone-banking. Both activities are simple to perform and will offer UU the Vote training (minimal needed) with First U volunteers’ help. UU the Vote has this down to a science! We’ll hold an in-person letter-writing session on the 11th following our brief program and share other ways that you can continue to write letters on your own or with other congregants.
** Please note: As a 501C3 non-profit organization, we cannot deal in partisan politics. UU the Vote is working with state-wide organizers to identify districts where outreach to voters is critical do defend our values of electoral justice, reproductive rights, gender justice and climate action. We will engage with voters on our values. No heavy political talk required!
Please do come as we root in relationship, and learn how we can make a difference together. Good food, good people, and good works.
