The Unitarian Universalist Association, of which First U Portland is a member, hosts an annual General Assembly, in which UU churches in the US are invited to participate, to set priorities and to celebrate Unitarian Universalism.  This year the General Assembly will be held June 24-28, VIRTUALLY rather than live, due to the impacts of COVID-19.  First Unitarian Portland is entitled to twenty delegates, based on our membership.  The registration fee is $150 but First U can reimburse fully those who request it.  We are seeking volunteers, people who are ready, willing, and able to participate as voting delegates.

Ready – can devote up to four hours per day on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (June 25-27), mostly mid-morning and early afternoon, PDT, to participate in on-line discussions that frame the final issues to be voted on at Saturday’s session of all the delegates.  And then, to vote your conscience.

Willing – to familiarize yourself  on the issues to be voted on.  As the final program and schedule are published the UUA will promulgate issues and matters of witness or education.   Following GA, delegates will be asked to report back to the membership on topics discussed and votes taken, as well as to share observations and impressions of the on-line process.

Able – is comfortable using online tools such as Zoom to attend virtual meetings and participate in voting. We do not yet know what communications vehicles the UUA will use.

This is a great opportunity to become engaged in the larger work of the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations. And, it is not all work; there will be the Ware Lecture, on-line worship, speakers, and workshops.  As GA draws nearer much more information will become available at uua.org.
