Legacy giving is an important way to ensure the future of First Unitarian Church of Portland. Gifts by will, trust, other forms of written designation, life-income arrangements, and outright cash legacy gifts all represent legacy giving.

Legacy gifts typically consist of monetary donations, but can include real estate, stocks & bonds, paid-up life insurance policies, or other tangible personal property. While the specifics of each gift and its distribution varies, these gifts can supply the First Unitarian Foundation with meaningful funds for years to come and honor your legacy.

The Foundation

The First Unitarian Church of Portland Foundation was founded in 2001 as an independent non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. It operates solely for the support and benefit of First Unitarian Church of Portland. All legacy gifts are managed by the Foundation as an unrestricted endowment. The Foundation provides the church an annual gift to the operating fund of 4.5%-5% of the endowment’s value and other significant financial support when necessary. The Foundation consists of a seven-member Board of Stewards, five elected by the Congregation and two appointed annually from the church Board of Trustees.

Legacy Society

The Legacy Society includes members and friends who have taken the important step of including the Church or Foundation in their will or estate plans or made an outright legacy gift to the foundation of $3,000 or more. If you have already done this, but have not informed the Church, please complete this Legacy Intent Form so that we can recognize and thank you as a Legacy Society member.
