Oregon artist, Mila Raphael, has been recognized for her colorful watercolor paintings throughout the Pacific Northwest. Her subject- matter is often inspired by the people she meets while traveling. A recent series featured “Las Mujeres de Oaxaca” (‘The Women of Oaxaca’), a study that captured the color, richness and diversity of indigenous oxacaqueñas in southern Mexico. Most of the paintings on display this month are of the Cuban people she met on a people-to-people tour of Cuba in 2015. They include dancers, cab drivers, children, hotel workers, musicians and fellow painters. She also records some of the street scenes that reflect Cuba today.
