For the month of March, we share our offering with Bark, a local environmental organization that envisions a future where climate resilience and environmental justice are the guiding principles of forest management. Bark’s mission is to transform Mt. Hood National Forest into a place where natural processes prevail, where wildlife thrives and where local communities have a social, cultural, and economic investment in its restoration and preservation.
Bark recently deepened its commitment to climate justice by created two new staff positions, a Native Communities Liaison and an Environmental Justice Coordinator. The lands that many people now call “Mt. Hood” have been home to Native communities since time immemorial. Bark is dedicated to strengthening its ability to support Native communities to shape Mt. Hood Forest management according to their vision and authority. With these staff positions, Bark also expands its advocacy focus beyond ecological concepts to include social justice work in partnership with historically marginalized communities who have been commonly excluded from land management decision-making processes.
