Ron Bloom, tapestry weaver, native of Brooklyn, New York, has lived in Portland for the past ten years at Terwilliger Plaza where he had his first exhibition. He has been a wool spinner and weaver for fifteen years. In the late 1990s, retired from college teaching in Baltimore, he returned to New York City, followed his knitting spouse to sheep and wool shows, began to spin on a spinning wheel made from PVC pipe. Images of New York City tenements, his family of origin, Oregon landscapes were his early focus. Current subjects reflect the condition of today’s migrants. He has exhibited at Holladay Park Plaza, Northwest Pilot Project and is a member of both Columbia Fiber Arts Guild and High Fiber Diet. In all his shows, he brings along a frame loom, tools, his spun wool to encourage viewers to talk about creativity in the third age, his and theirs.
